Pixar's UP

Seems to me, that the new film is a reworked version of Cervantes', Don Quixote - not that, that's a bad thing...

Synopsis: Carl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life. UP takes us on a thrilling journey where the unlikely pair encounter wild terrain, unexpected villains and jungle creatures. Pixar’s Up is in theaters, May 29th 2009 - I'm looking forward to this one!

I really like giraffes, but this takes the biscuit...

So, Ms Colleen got a tattoo of a giraffe; but not just any tattoo; a 'dot to dot' tattoo - very cool. Full story and more photos after the jump - Link

Tip Toland - Melt, the figure in clay

Amazing Work by Pacific Northwest sculptor Tip Toland. The artist's powerful life size figures, show a frozen moment in time; capturing the beauty and vulnerability of ordinary folk - I am in complete awe! One of my favourite pieces is Dive, pictured here. At the Bellevue Arts Museum, until February 8th, 2009.

History has been made

'Yes we can' - Today a dream has been realised; faith has been restored. Write it down - Where were you, when history was being made?

We just live here...

...and they said I couldn't vote: the 2008 Presidential Election site for US Aliens - interestingly, 94% of United Kingdom 'aliens' voted for Obama - sensible people!
Have a good election day, and make the right choice for                                                                America and the World.

Show your support - you too can have your very own paper Obama mascot - print, cut, fold and glue all the way to the White House - cool! Link

Obsession is good

Interesting article on the Zenhabits blog - "If you want to be good at something, you have to to be obsessive. You have to do the thing all the time, and when you’re not doing it, you have to be thinking about doing it. Why do you think business people who make millions are so good at it? They’re always doing business. Even when they’re not working, they’re thinking about better ways to do business." Link

So it seems white men 'can' jump!

Stuart Tanner, a 28yr old part-time basketball coach, has embarrassed multi-million dollar NBA star, Devin Harris - the Londoner was videoed challenging Harris to a one on one game, after the New Jersey Nets point guard had led a coaching clinic in Stockwell, London. Someone needs to sign this guy!

A Republican who speaks the truth

Finally someone is openly addressing the fact, that being Muslim and American, is not mutually exclusive - Much respect for General Colin Powell.

Room with a View

I spent the weekend volunteering at the local branch of Habitat for Humanity - part of a multi-faith group building housing on Snoqualmie Ridge. We had two beautiful days weather wise; lots of hard work, but well worth it. Check out the view from the house I worked on.

How the bail out works...

Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The following day the farmer drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died.' Chuck replied, 'Well, then just give me my money back.' Farmer: 'Can't do that. I went and spent it already.' Chuck: 'OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.' The farmer asked, 'What ya gonna do with him? Chuck: 'I'm going to raffle him off.' Farmer: 'You can't raffle off a dead donkey!' Chuck: 'Sure I can, watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead.' A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?' Chuck: 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $998.' Farmer: 'Didn't anyone complain?' Chuck: 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back.' Chuck now works for the Goldman Sachs!

Home decorating with a Sharpie

In the current economic climate, how much do you think it would cost to decorate your basement?
$10 in Sharpie markers - artistic talent not included! Check out the 360ยบ panorama, after the jump - very cool! Link

Applied Geometry

Excellent project by American artist Robert Wechsler. Robert has a talent for infusing the mundane with a lovely sense of the bizzare! I also love the circular bike. Full sized image

Punched @ 1000fps

Action Figure accomplice and buddy Cory Kilduff, the TX half of the dirty DiscoHouseElectro duo Ocelot took the recently acquired footage of the AF crew punching each other in the face at 1000 frames per second and repurposed it to his remix of the Robyn track "Be Mine"- I enjoyed it! Link

Compositing Techniques

No, I didn't take big plastic letters to the beach (yes, I did think about it!)
I've been experimenting with compositing techniques - pretty happy with the outcome here. The text in the photo was modelled and composited in Cinema 4d - the HDRI/lighting make this work; but it definitely took a bit of experimenting to get it right. Click on the image to see a larger version.

Non-Partisan Message...

Great impressions from both ladies, but Tina Fey's, Palin was creepy good. If ever Palin needs a stand-in, Tina's her man - so to speak! Update: They did it again! Link

History in the making...

Last night Barack Obama, in his Democratic nomination acceptance speech, transformed from Senator to Statesman. Uniting the party and pushing aside all doubts (were there really any?) that he is the man who can lead America out of "Dubb-ya's" eight years of Republican craziness!

Finally, someone we can believe in - someone who can bring change to Washington.
